About the team behind this review
Who writes here, how the OctaFX review is put together, and how you can hold us to it.
Sponsor's licencesHow we test and score
A reader once wrote to us to say that a fee we had described as standard did not match what she had been charged on a small withdrawal. We opened the broker's own fee schedule again, compared it line by line with her account statement, found that the schedule had been updated without any notice on the page we had cited, and changed the review the same week. That is the ordinary way this site works: an assertion is only as good as the evidence sitting behind it at the moment someone reads it.
Every review of OctaFX starts from a fixed checklist that we apply in the same order each time. We open an account under our own name, fund it with our own money, and work through the things a South African reader would actually deal with: registration and verification, the deposit and withdrawal routes that are available locally, the spreads and commissions on the instruments we cover, how orders behave during fast markets, the wording of the client agreement, and how support responds when something goes wrong. Each item is scored against written criteria, not against a feeling about the brand, and the criteria are applied to the next review in the same way.
Scores are not handed out once and left alone. We re-check the parts that change most often, such as fees, payment methods and platform terms, and we date the review so you can see how current it is. Where something could not be verified, we say so in the text rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Sources and verification
The facts in a review come from the broker's own published documents, from what we observe directly in a funded account, and from the regulator registers and public records that apply to the entity serving South African clients. We keep the source for each material claim so that it can be checked again later. Two members of the team read every review before publication, and the second reader's job is to challenge the first: to ask where a number came from, whether the wording of a term has been paraphrased too loosely, and whether a conclusion is doing more work than the evidence allows.
We do not publish a claim about licensing, ownership or client-fund handling that we cannot point to in a public document. We do not invent registration numbers, addresses or contact details, and where we describe how to reach the broker we describe the route rather than reproducing anything we have not seen ourselves. If a document is ambiguous, the review says it is ambiguous.
Challenging what we publish
If you believe something on this site is wrong, tell us through the contact form on this site and include the page, the sentence and whatever you have that bears on it, such as a statement, a screenshot or a link to the broker's own terms. We read every message of that kind and we reply to the ones that identify a specific claim.
Where a correction is warranted, we amend the review and note that it has been amended, without quietly removing the earlier wording. Where we look into a challenge and conclude that the original text stands, we explain why to the person who raised it. A review that cannot survive being argued with is not worth publishing, and the argument is more useful to us than agreement.
Funding and purpose
The site pays for itself through advertising and affiliate arrangements, which means we may receive payment when a reader opens an account through a link on these pages. That money does not buy a score, a sentence or a ranking. The testing and scoring happen first and are not shared with anyone before publication, and no commercial arrangement gives a partner sight of a review before you do. If we cannot keep that separation for a particular arrangement, we decline the arrangement.
This site exists because a South African reader trying to judge a broker is usually working from marketing pages written to persuade, and from forum posts written in anger or in hope. We wanted a plain account of what the product actually does, written for people who are deciding whether to open an account and for those already using one who want to know what they agreed to. We are not the broker, we are not affiliated with it, and we do not offer financial services, accounts, deposits or advice. We review; you decide.
